Our Legacy
In 1952, Rev. Will Smith took a step of faith and planted a church in Saraland, Alabama.
For 26 years, Pastor Smith faithfully shepherded this congregation through its earliest days. When he prepared to step away in 1978, he left these words:
"We have enjoyed laboring in God's great vineyard. We appreciate all of you who have been faithful to the Lord, to the church, and to us as your pastors. You have been a blessing to us throughout the years, and we hope that we have been a blessing to you. Our prayer is that the church will always prosper in every way for the Lord."
Under Pastor Ken Draughon's leadership, the church began to grow to the point that a new home became inevitable. In the late 1980s, Pastor Ken challenged the congregation with a "whatever it takes" mentality, and that bold step of faith led to where we are today: 20 acres at 907 Shelton Beach Road.
Today, under the leadership of Pastor Jason and Ashleigh Mayfield, we continue looking forward with expectation and hope, honoring those who came before while stepping boldly into what's next.
Missions
Foreign
Kilimanjaro School of Missions
Saraland Church partners with Kilimanjaro School of Missions (KSOM) to train indigenous, Spirit-filled ministers for global missions. Located in Kemana, Kenya, in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, KSOM is a direct partnership with the Kenya Assemblies of God. Students complete a one-year program that equips them to take the gospel to Muslim-dominated and unreached areas of Africa, including South Sudan, Somalia, and Uganda.
Each year, we sponsor a student's full tuition, covering room and board, educational materials, and a three-month ministry internship. We believe the Western church has a responsibility to raise up national believers to reach their own people and surrounding nations. Through this partnership, we're investing in missionaries who will carry the gospel where it's never been named.
Convoy of hope
Through our partnership with Convoy of Hope, we're feeding 30 kids every single day. For many children, this is their only reliable meal, and we believe the church should step into that gap. Convoy of Hope doesn't just hand out food; they build customized programs that address hunger and poverty together, including nutritional assessments, clean water access, hygiene education, and resources that help kids succeed in school. This isn't a seasonal program or a special event; it's an everyday commitment to making sure kids in our community don't go hungry.
At home
The Neighbor Box
We believe the church should be the first place people turn when they need help, not the last. In August 2026, we're launching The Neighbor Box, a simple but powerful initiative to feed families in our community. Each Neighbor Box is filled with food and delivered directly to local families facing hardship. Our goal is to feed 100 families by the end of 2026. No strings attached, no hoops to jump through, just the church being the church. If you're in need, we want to help. If you want to be part of meeting that need, there's room for you too.
LIVE AND ONLINE LANGUAGE TRANSLATION
From the very first outpouring of the Spirit at Pentecost, God has been in the business of crossing language barriers to reach people with the Good News. We're passionate about continuing that legacy. Whether you're joining us in person or online, we're expanding our services to include real-time translation into multiple languages, because the Gospel isn't meant for just one tribe or tongue. This is the Great Commission in action: making disciples of all nations, right here from Saraland. We believe that when someone hears the life-changing message of Jesus in the language of their heart, walls come down and faith comes alive. No one should be on the outside looking in because of a language barrier, and we're committed to making sure they're not.
Honoring Our Faithful Senior Adults
Legacy Builders Lounge Design Concept
They've raised families in the faith. They've prayed through decades of answered prayers. They've given, served, and stayed faithful when it wasn't easy. Now, it's our honor to create a space just for them.
Legacy Builders is more than a Sunday morning gathering—it's a celebration of the men and women who have been building the Kingdom long before some of us were born. Every Sunday at 9:30am, before our morning worship service, our Legacy Builders gather in the newly renovated Legacy Builders Lounge for a time of reflection, encouragement, and rich conversation over coffee and donuts.
We believe that honoring those who've gone before us isn't optional; it's biblical. And we believe that the wisdom in this room has the power to shape the generations yet to come. That's why we've created a space where our most treasured members can connect, be refreshed, and continue doing what they've always done: building something that lasts.
Because a legacy isn't just what you leave behind. It's what you're still building today.
New Team Members
Ms. Hannah Jednat
Elementary Kids Ministry Coordinator
We're excited to announce that Ms. Hannah Jednat will be stepping into the role of Elementary Ministry Coordinator. Hannah holds both a Bachelor's and Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Mobile and was recently named one of Saraland City Schools' Teachers of the Year. Her enthusiasm for excellence is obvious, and now she's bringing that same passion to creating a safe, clean, and fun environment for kids to encounter Jesus. Along with her husband, Mr. Hunter, they are well-equipped to take our children's ministry to the next level.
Pastor John Mosley
Compassion Ministries
Pastor John and Ms. Sheila Mosely are stepping on to oversee our Compassion Ministries, including The Neighbor Box and Prayer Ministries. Pastor John will also be assisting Pastor Mayfield in extending pastoral care to the congregation, including overseeing our Legacy Builders Ministry. The Moselys bring decades of ministry experience to the table, and we're grateful to have them on the team.
Communion
& Water Baptism
The Ordinances
As an Assemblies of God church, we observe two ordinances: Communion and Water Baptism. These aren't empty rituals. They're powerful, tangible moments where we remember what Jesus did and declare what He's doing in our lives.
The Lord's Supper
Starting this summer, communion stations will be available in our auditorium every single week. No special service required. No waiting for the first Sunday of the month. Whenever you feel led to remember the broken body and shed blood of Jesus, you can walk to a station and partake.
This is how the early church did it. Communion wasn't an occasional event but a regular rhythm of remembrance. We want to create space for you to encounter Jesus at His table as often as your heart needs it.
Water Baptism
If you've made the decision to follow Jesus, your next step is water baptism. It's your public declaration that the old life is dead and buried, and you've been raised to walk in newness of life.
We're excited to announce that we're christening a new baptistry. (Let's just say we've officially retired the Coleman hot tub era.) It's still portable, meaning we can take it anywhere the moment calls for, but it's an upgraded experience for one of the most significant and memorable moments of your faith journey. Our first baptism service with the new setup will be April 12, 2026.

Capital Improvements
Sign + Frontage
The first thing people see—whether visiting or just passing by—is our church sign. Right now, we're working with temporary banners just to communicate correct information to the community. We can do better. Our vision is a new sign that reflects who we are: an industrial modern farmhouse aesthetic with a tropical twist.
But the sign is just the beginning. We're dreaming of removing the grass areas near the building and adding front parking for a larger, more accessible lot. We want to completely redesign the arrival experience—extending our existing walkways into a large concrete patio where small groups can gather, events can happen, and relationships can grow in the open air. Picture a courtyard with a pergola and turf areas where kids can run and play before and after services. We're even planning to build a small wall to cover those AC units—because details matter.
The current covered drop-off area? We want to extend the patio so our foyer literally spills out into the outdoors. We'll still have a canopy for drop-off when the weather doesn't cooperate, but the vision is seamless indoor-outdoor gathering space. We want your first impression to feel like an invitation.
Foyer + Kids Space + Restrooms
Right now, our foyer doesn't get a lot of natural light. It can feel dark and a little cramped. We're planning to brighten the walls, paint the ceilings white, and add natural wood treatments for texture and warmth. We'll recess the lighting up into the beams so it's not sitting right on top of you. The result? A space that feels more energetic, more welcoming, and a lot bigger.
But better than feeling bigger is actually making it bigger.
By relocating our offices, we can extend the foyer significantly. That narrow four-and-a-half-foot nursery hallway? It becomes ten feet wide—room for more than one person at a time. The old office space becomes a brand-new kids check-in area with its own dedicated entrance and nearby parking exclusively for parents with young children. We want to take care of the next generation from the moment they arrive.
Once the offices move, we can build out a brand-new elementary kids worship space. No more splitting children between upstairs and downstairs—our entire children's ministry will be housed together in one purpose-built environment.
And yes, the restrooms. They're small. They're dated. We're planning a completely new restroom experience that matches the quality of everything else we're building.
Meanwhile, improvements to our current nursery and children's areas are already underway. Roofers are repairing leaks. Air conditioners have been fixed. Lighting samples have arrived to replace the old fluorescent fixtures. New televisions have been delivered. Paint has been selected. You're going to see major improvements in these spaces over the coming weeks.
Auditorium
In the auditorium, we're envisioning a lighter, brighter atmosphere, with dark ceilings that hide all the technology happening overhead. A brand-new sound system will ensure every seat in the house gets a balanced experience, whether it's worship or preaching. New lighting will enhance the atmosphere, and a new floor-to-ceiling projection screen will be bright enough and large enough for everyone to see the details: lyrics during worship, notes during the message, videos that actually make an impact.
We're also planning to add curtains along the back wall. It's a small touch, but it makes the room feel more intimate, more like a church and less like a gymnasium.
And then there's the stage.
You may have noticed tape on the floor marking out a future layout. That's the stage expansion we're planning, with stairs across the front and down the sides, plus a kneeling area that isn't stairs at all, just a place to meet with God.
Here's the thing about stairs on the front of a church stage: they're more than stairs. Somewhere between the first worship song and the closing prayer, they become an altar. As Pastor Jason says, it was at the front of a stage, on two square feet of carpet, that he got right with the Lord. He can still point to the exact step.
We believe these stairs are going to be more than an expansion. More than extra space for drums or production. This is where your son or daughter is going to do business with God. Where are your grandchildren, your coworker, your neighbor going to get right with the Lord? That's why we're building them.
