We’re building a Jesus-Centered
Spirit-Filled Church for All People
A Note from Pastor Jason Mayfield
If you’re reading this, you’re likely considering whether Saraland Church might be a place where you could serve, build, and lead. Before you look at a job description, I want you to understand the mission that drives everything we do—and the heart behind it.
Our mission is simple, but it’s not shallow:
We’re building a Jesus-centered, Spirit-filled church for all people.
Those words aren’t branding language. They are convictions. And they shape the kind of leaders we’re looking for.
We’re Building…
Saraland Church is in an active season of building. This includes revitalization, relaunch, and forward momentum, but more than anything, it’s about intentional construction.
We are rebuilding systems, strengthening culture, and clarifying direction. This is not a maintenance environment, and it’s not a place to simply “do a job.” It requires ownership, initiative, and a willingness to help shape what doesn’t yet fully exist.
If you thrive in environments where something is being built, where faith, effort, and responsibility intersect—this may be a fit. If you need everything finished and clearly defined before you start, it likely isn’t.
A Jesus-Centered…
Everything we do flows from Jesus Christ. He is not a footnote or a theme, He is the center.
Our preaching, leadership decisions, and ministry philosophy are anchored in who Jesus is and what He has done. We believe people don’t need better advice or improved behavior alone; they need Jesus. That conviction informs how we lead, how we disciple, and how we make decisions.
Anyone serving on our team must be aligned with a Christ-centered approach that values clarity, conviction, and faithfulness over trends, pressure, or popularity.
Spirit-Filled Church…
I believe deeply in the active, present work of the Holy Spirit, not as a style or a personality marker, but as essential power for life, leadership, and endurance.
Building a healthy church requires more than strategy. It requires people who are strengthened on the inside, led by wisdom beyond themselves, and dependent on God’s presence rather than their own ability.
Our culture is thoughtful, ordered, and grounded, but it is also unapologetically dependent on the Holy Spirit. That matters here.
For All People.
I want to be honest about where we are and where we’re going.
Right now, Saraland Church is a predominantly white church. I’m aware of that, and I’m not comfortable staying there long-term. Seeing this church become genuinely multicultural, reflecting the community around us and the breadth of the Kingdom of God, is a priority and a personal conviction of mine.
This won’t happen through slogans or shortcuts. It will happen through intentional leadership, cultural humility, trust, and consistency over time.
I’m looking for leaders who can serve people they may not fully understand yet, who can build welcoming environments without compromising biblical conviction, and who are willing to do the slow, meaningful work of seeing a church grow beyond its current expression.
If you’re drawn to this mission, you won’t just be taking a role, you’ll be joining a work that matters deeply to me and to the future of this church.
— Pastor Jason Mayfield
About Our Work Culture
We look for team members with an entrepreneurial mindset.
We don’t manage by the clock—we measure by results. What matters is ownership, initiative, and follow-through. We trust our team to manage their time well, take responsibility for outcomes, and lead their areas with maturity.
This is a mission-driven environment where clarity, accountability, and momentum matter. If you enjoy building, solving problems, and being trusted to lead rather than micromanaged, you’ll likely thrive here.
Who You'd Be Working For
Pastor Jason Mayfield
Pastor Jason has over 20 years of ministry experience with an extensive background in church revitalization, growth environments, systems and strategy, preaching, media, and digital content. He has consulted with pastors nationally and built a YouTube audience of over 22,000 subscribers. He created Tear Up Your Bible, a resource that has impacted more than 100,000 people. He has been credentialed with the Assemblies of God for approximately 19 years and ordained for about 12.
Pastor Jason genuinely loves people and is deeply committed to their spiritual growth. His primary assignment, however, is his teaching ministry. Discipleship starts in the pulpit, and that conviction shapes how he leads the church. The focus is simple: spread the Gospel above all else—both in the room and online. We are in the soul business, and the goal is to see people saved.
Pastor Jason is experientially Pentecostal with an old-school feel in the pulpit. He is comfortable with hymns, classic Pentecostal ethos, and an atmosphere charged with faith. What he does not pursue is distraction or chaos—no banners, prophetic painting, or unnecessary theatrics. Spirit-filled, yes. Disorderly, no.
What He’s Like to Work For
Pastor Jason is highly introverted. He cares deeply about people, but relational interactions require significant emotional and mental energy. Because of this, focus around service times is important, and he limits non-essential conversations on Sundays so he can steward his role well. This is not coldness or disinterest—it is capacity stewardship in service of the church.
At present, Pastor Jason is carrying more roles than is sustainable—senior leadership, preaching, worship oversight, production, communications, and post-service video editing. This is temporary, not the long-term vision. The goal is to build a strong team where leaders take real ownership of their areas.
What he expects from staff: high-capacity, high-initiative leaders who operate at a level above the church’s current size. He values people who make decisions within clear values, bring solutions rather than only problems, and own outcomes without needing to be micromanaged. Pastor Jason leads as a pastor, not a parent. Staff are expected to build systems, lead volunteers, anticipate issues, and act decisively when needed.
Ashleigh Mayfield
Pastor Jason's wife Ashleigh is an active leader in the church. She runs her own business coaching high-achieving women and has a background in corporate America, top sales performance, and managing multi-million-dollar retail operations. She has a substantial social media platform and leads people nationally.
Ashleigh plays a key role in culture and expectations, leadership development, hospitality, and volunteer recruitment. As Next Generation Director, you would coordinate volunteer recruitment in conjunction with her, especially around hospitality and Next Gen volunteer teams. Her voice matters in how things look, feel, and execute.
In terms of energy, Ashleigh is more extroverted and balances multitasking better than Pastor Jason.
The Benefits of Working in a
Smaller Church
Smaller churches create opportunities that larger environments simply cannot, and for the right person, that is a strategic advantage.
There are two types of people who tend to thrive in a smaller church environment.
Those who are established in ministry
This environment is well-suited for leaders who can produce meaningful results from scratch. We are in an active turnaround season, which means you will engage a wide range of skills early on, including building teams, developing systems, and creating programs that do not just function but grow.
If you have an entrepreneurial drive, enjoy ownership, and want to build rather than inherit, a smaller church can be deeply rewarding. You are not stepping into something someone else created. If you succeed, you will have clear, tangible results to show for it. Playing a role in the turnaround of a church can be genuinely career-building and may open doors to future leadership opportunities in church ministry, denominational leadership, or even corporate environments.
Those who are starting their ministry career
For leaders early in their journey, a smaller church offers something invaluable: the opportunity to learn through real responsibility in an environment where growth and development are expected. Decisions matter, but they do not carry the long-term, far-reaching consequences often present in larger and more visible settings.
That said, we do not start from zero. We only consider entry-level candidates who already possess the raw materials needed for the role. For example, we will not teach someone how to play the piano, but we will teach someone who can sing and play how to lead a team, manage systems, and grow a ministry.
In a smaller church, you gain hands-on experience while actively building your portfolio. Over time, that experience can open doors to larger opportunities, or it can become the foundation for long-term impact, longevity, and legacy in one place.
